Exploiting the most vulnerable among us. Isn’t that the way its always been? It is such a pity that there is apparently no organisation or institution prepared to speak for and put victims of abuse first.
Nobody talks openly about it. Now and then you hear something that sounds familiar, that you heard before. Nobody wants to commit to confirming it but nobody denies it. What’s most alarming, is that nobody is doing anything about it. But déja vu is unfair on victims.
The Ryan, Ferns, Murphy, Cloyne and recent Magdalene Commission and Quirke reports into the Magdalene laundries all report that people knew what was happening to the people in the residential institutions. ‘In Plain Sight’ the report by Amnesty International pointed to general awareness of abuse in our residential institutions in our society and asked why nobody lifted a finger.
Asking around over the past couple of months, having observed over the past decade or more, and having had first-hand experience of it, it is now time to make public that exploitation, bullying and intimidation are alive and well in the many…

The abuse of victims in these shelter charities continues – with state funding – whilst politicians turn their head to what is really happening
Survivors, with nowhere else to go, delivered into further abuse.
In UK, Erin Pizzey, the founder of the world’s first shelter for women of domestic abuse in Chiswick, has been an outspoken critic for decades.
She has written Open Letters and calls them “One Stop Divorce Shops” (at best).
I’ve raised this issue with my own MSP twice and have recently pointed out the lies these people peddle in order to gain the funds to continue their abuse of victims.
They operate by propaganda – they have their own agenda, and they gain taxpayer funding by deception – eg Fraud.
Just like these care shelters of the past, these new care shelters will face full disclosure and those who turn a blind eye will be identified for what they are.
Completely agree with you. This particular post is primarily concerned with the victims of abuse in Roman Catholic industrial schools and women who were sent to homes known Magdalene laundries where they were effectively imprisoned and treated as slave workers. But you are right the same applies to everyone who has needed support and shelter, which is what these homes were said to be, only to discover that once inside there was no way out.

Yes, Pippakin, I’ve read many articles, noted documentaries and news reports. It is getting much focus…. and quite rightly too. There is no excuse, just as there is no excuse to learn from history – and in the case of abuse of survivors at Magdalene, very recent history indeed. Bless all these abused individuals and their families.
